Prairie View

Town in Waller County, southeastern Texas, USA, 69 km/43 mi northwest of Houston; population (1990) 4,000. It is the seat of Prairie View A & M State University, formerly named Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College. The facility was originally established for black Americans on plantation property deeded to the state in 1876.
