Prato

Industrial town in Tuscany, central Italy, 18 km/11 mi northwest of Florence; population (2001) 172,500. Woollen goods, textiles, synthetic fibres, carpets, and hosiery are produced. The 12th-century cathedral contains frescoes by Agnolo Gaddi and Filippo Lippi, reliefs by Andrea della Robbia, and an external pulpit partly by Donatello.

The church of Sta Maria delle Carceri has a dome designed by Giuliano Sangallo.
