Preminger, Otto

Preminger, Otto (Ludwig) (1906–1986)

Austrian-born US film producer, director, and actor. He directed and starred in Margin for Error (1943), and directed and produced The Man with the Golden Arm (1955), Advise and Consent (1962), and The Human Factor (1980). His work is characterized by an intricate technique of storytelling and a masterly use of the wide screen and the travelling camera.

Among the other films he directed and produced are Laura (1944), The Moon Is Blue (1953), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), and Rosebud (1974).

Born in Vienna, Preminger went to the USA in 1935. He is also known for helping to relax US censorship regulations.
