Presque Isle

Town in Aroostook County, northeastern Maine, USA, on the Aroostook River and Presque Isle Stream, 18 km/11 mi west of the New Brunswick border; population (1990) 10,600. A distribution point for the Aroostook Valley, Presque Isle is a major potato processing centre. Hunting and winter sports support a tourist industry, and there is some light manufacturing. Educational facilities include a campus of the University of Maine and Northern Maine Vocational and Technical Institute.
