Prestonpans

Seaside town and former burgh in East Lothian unitary authority, Scotland, 15 km/9 mi east of Edinburgh; population (2001) 7,150. It was originally a major salt producer and coalmining centre. In 1745 royalist troops led by John Cope were routed at the Battle of Prestonpans by Prince Charles Edward Stuart's Jacobite forces.
