Previtali, Fernando (1907–1985)

Italian conductor and composer. He studied composition, organ, piano, and cello at the Turin Conservatory. From 1928 to 1936 he conducted in Florence (at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), from 1936 to 1953 with the Rome Radio Orchestra, and in 1953 became conductor of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra. He made his US debut with the Cleveland orchestra, in 1955; his US opera debut was made at Dallas in 1975, with Anna Bolena. From 1972 he was principal conductor at San Carlo, Naples.

Works

ballet Alluzinazione (1945); cantata for chorus and orchestra; string quartet, string trio; songs.
