Prigioniero, II

Opera (prologue and one act) by Luigi Dallapiccola (libretto by composer after V de L'Isle Adam and C de Coster); composed 1944–48 and first performed on Turin Radio, on 4 December 1949. Produced Florence, 20 May 1950. The story is set during the era of the Inquisition in Spain. The Prisoner finds hope in a comforting Gaoler. One day the cell is left open and he finds his way to freedom, only to be caught by the Grand Inquisitor.
