Prince George's County

County of southern-central Maryland, USA; area 1,261 sq km/487 sq mi; population (1990) 29,300. Its seat is Upper Marlboro. Located partly in the Piedmont, and partly in the coastal plain, the county is bounded to the west by the Potomac River and Washington DC, to the northwest by Montgomery County, and to the east and northeast by the Patuxent River. The area contains many Washington suburbs and includes new, upmarket development. The University of Maryland is situated at College Park, and Andrews Airforce Base and other government installations are sited in the county.
