Prince George County

County of southeastern Virginia, USA; area 689 sq km/266 sq mi; population (1990) 27,400. Its seat is Prince George. Situated on low-lying coastal land, it is primarily agricultural; activities include peanut growing, market gardening, and livestock raising. Some manufacturing takes place at Hopewell, which is within but independent of the county. A number of manoeuvres in the 1864–65 siege of Petersburg, adjacent to the northwest, took place in the area.
