Prince Igor

Opera by Aleksandr Borodin (libretto by composer, based on a sketch by Vladimir Stassov), composed between 1871 and 1887 and left unfinished at Borodin's death in the latter year. It was completed and scored by Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov, and produced at St Petersburg, on 4 November 1890. In the story, Prince Igor and son Vladimir are taken prisoner by the Polovtsi. Khan Konchak treats his prisoners well, blessing the union of his daughter Konchakovna with Vladimir. Igor escapes and is welcomed home.
