Prinz von Homburg, Der

Opera by Hans Werner Henze (libretto by Ingeborg Bachmann, after Heinrich von Kleist), produced at the Staatsoper, Hamburg, on 22 May 1960. In the story, the Prince is lost in a fantasy world with his beloved Princess at its centre. As a result, he ignores battle orders and is condemned to death. Offered his freedom after Princess Natalie intervenes, he still prefers an honourable death, but the Elector shows mercy in the end.
