Pritchard, James Bennett (1909-1997)

US archaeologist. His lifelong study of the Middle East included expeditions to Jericho (1951), el-Jib (1956-62), and Tell es-Sa'idiyeh, Jordan (1964-67), and yielded such publications as The Ancient Near East (two volumes) 1958-75.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He ended a long teaching career in the USA and the Middle East at the University of Pennsylvania 1962-78.
