product placement

Advertising of products through positioning in television and film as props or scenery. Companies pay large sums to have their product endorsed indirectly in popular television programmes and feature films. The star of a film may, for example, shave with a Gillette razor, or the good guys may drive Mercedes cars. Competition for this kind of advertising can be fierce, particularly in popular film franchises such as the Bond movies.
