Prokina, Elena (1964– )

Russian soprano. She studied first as an actress, and from 1988 sang with the Kirov Opera, as Emma in Khovanshchina, Marguerite, and Natasha (which she also sang on BBC TV). She performed Káta Kabanová in London, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (1994); she returned as Desdemona, in 1995. She made further appearances at Los Angeles (as Lina in Stiffelio) and at the Bregenz Festival. She was valued for the musical and theatrical truth of her performances.
