Provenzale, Francesco (1627–1704)

Italian composer. He may have studied at Naples, and between 1663 and 1674 he taught there, at the Loreto Conservatory. He was also maestro di cappella at the church of San Gennaro and in the royal chapel.

operas Il Ciro (1653), Xerse (1655), Artemisa (1657), Il Theseo (1658), Lo schiavo di sua moglie (1671), Difendere l'offensore (1674); church music; nine cantatas.
