Proverbs

Book of the Old Testament traditionally ascribed to the Hebrew king Solomon. The Proverbs form a series of maxims on moral and ethical matters.

He that writeth in blood and proverbs doth not want to be read, but learnt by heart.
First, it is likely that before the rise of the Ionian epos there existed in Boeotia a purely popular and indigenous poetry of a crude form: it comprised, we may suppose, versified proverbs and precepts relating to life in general, agricultural maxims, weather-lore, and the like.
I thought it probable enough that Blanche Stroeve would not continue to find life with Strickland tolerable, but one of the falsest of proverbs is that you must lie on the bed that you have made.
