Proxima Centauri

Closest star to the Sun, 4.2 light years away from the Sun. It is a faint red dwarf, visible only with a telescope, and is a member of the Alpha Centauri triple-star system.

It is called Proxima because it is about 0.1 light years closer to us than its two partners.
