Pryce, Jonathan

    0.09 sec.

Pryce, Jonathan (1947– )

Welsh stage and screen actor. He rose to international renown following his roles as a journalist in The Ploughman's Lunch (1983) and as a Kafkaesque clerk in Brazil (1985). A prolific performer in the 1990s, Pryce brought intelligent poise to minor roles in films such as The Age of Innocence (1993), and lent a comic touch in his role as a corrupt media mogul in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

Other feature films include the period pieces Carrington (1995) and Regeneration (1997), the action adventure Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), and the musicals Evita (1996) and De-Lovely (2004).

A stage veteran, Pryce studied at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company in such productions as Measure for Measure and Antony and Cleopatra. He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award in 1990 (1989 season) for Best Actor in a Musical for Miss Saigon. In 2001 he starred as Professor Henry Higgins in Trevor Nunn's production of My Fair Lady, in London.
