Prypyat'

River in eastern Europe, flowing through southern Belarus and northern Ukraine; length 775 km/482 mi. The Pripyat' is a tributary of the River Dnieper, which it joins 80 km/50 mi above Kiev. The Pripyat' marshes, which lie near the river's source in a forested area called Polesye, near Pinsk, were of strategic importance in both World Wars.

The Pripyat' is navigable for most of its length. Canals link it to the Bug, Vistula, and Nemunas rivers.
