Psycho

Black and white 1960 screen thriller, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. A young woman (played by US actor Janet Leigh) absconds with stolen money, stops off at the Bates Motel, and is murdered in the shower. The subsequent unravelling of proprietor Norman Bates's (US actor Anthony Perkins) schizophrenia creates one of cinema's most suspenseful films. The film was based on the novel of the same name by US writer Robert Bloch.

Psycho was remade in 1998 by US director Gus Van Sant.
