rifle-bird

Bird of paradise, genus Ptiloris paradisea, in the family Paradisaeidae, order Passeriformes. It occurs in Australia and New Guinea, and is purplish-black in colour with patches of green bronze. The nest is usually made in a tangle of creepers.
