accountant

Person responsible for drawing up accounts, usually for a business organization. Accountants have traditionally concentrated on recording what has happened financially in the past. However, in management accounting, accountants are increasingly involved in helping to formulate policy for business organizations, providing information for decision-makers and frameworks for making those decisions.

In the last few years, against this backdrop south of the border, the Canadian CA profession has been looking at the need for internationally recognized uniform public accounting legislation in Canada.
The new public accounting regime in Ontario is governed by the Public Accounting Act 2004, which was proclaimed on Nov 1, 2005.
At first glance the data on women's advancement in public accounting looked positive; however, there were some differences across firm size that showed smaller firms were promoting women at even higher rates than larger firms.
