Puerto Varas

Puerto Varas

Town in south-central Chile, in the region of Los Lagos, on the edge of lake Llanquihue, 26 km/16 mi north of Puerto Montt; population (1992) 26,600. It is a tourist centre.

The church in Puerto Varas was built by German Jesuit missionaries in 1918, and is a copy of the baroque church at Marienkirche in the Black Forest.
