Puget, Pierre (1620–1694)

French baroque sculptor, painter, and architect. He developed a powerful and expressive style. He created a muscular statue of the tyrant Milo of Crotona 1671–82 (Louvre, Paris) for the garden of the palace of Versailles.

Puget worked in Italy 1640–43 and was influenced by Michelangelo and Pietro da Cortona. After 1682 he failed to gain further court patronage because of his stubborn temperament and his severe style.
