Pulaski County

County of central Arkansas, USA, bisected by the Arkansas River; area 1,987 sq km/767 sq mi; population (1990) 349,700. Its seat is Little Rock, the state capital and largest metropolitan centre. Agricultural and suburban, the county produces cotton, corn, hay, market garden crops, and livestock. There is substantial industry at Little Rock and North Little Rock. The county's mines are the leading US source of bauxite; other mineral works include oil and gas wells, and stone quarries.
