Pullman

City in southeast Whitman County, southeast Washington, on the south fork of the Palouse River, 14 km/9 mi west of Moscow, Idaho, and 97 km/60 mi south-southeast of Spokane; population (2000) 24,700. It is a commercial and shipping centre for a grain, livestock, and poultry-producing region. It is the home of Washington State University (1890). The state college for science and agriculture is also at Pullman and has played an important role in the development of new breeds and agricultural techniques for the northwestern region.
