Punta Gorda

Seat of Charlotte County, southwestern Florida, USA, on Charlotte Harbor near the mouth of the Peace River, 32 km/20 mi from the Gulf of Mexico and 37 km/23 mi northwest of Fort Myers; population (1990) 10,700. It is a resort noted for its angling and yachting facilities, and a distribution point for fish, shellfish, and vegetables from the local area.
