Punxsutawney

Borough of Jefferson County, western-central Pennsylvania, USA, 105 km/65 mi northeast of Pittsburgh; population (1990) 6,800. Punxsutawney is noted as the home of Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who appears annually on Groundhog Day, 2 February; traditionally, if he sees his shadow winter will continue for an additional six weeks. The borough produces textiles, beverages, and potatoes, and has some coal mining.
