Put-in-Bay

Resort village on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, northern Ohio, USA, on Put-in-Bay Harbor; population (1990) 100. Its economy relies on tourism, commercial fishing, and winemaking. Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial lies at the southeastern corner of the village. It commemorates the victory of American over British forces in the naval Battle of Put-in-Bay (1813), fought in the channel between Middle Bass and South Bass islands during the War of 1812.
