Putnam

Town in Windham County, northeastern Connecticut, USA, on the Quinebaug River at Cargill Falls, 32 km/20 mi northeast of Willimantic; population (1990) 9,000. An industrial centre, it manufactures textiles, metal products, and paper goods. There is some dairy farming, and the town's interstate highway and road connections make it a local trading hub.
