Putnam, George Palmer (1814-1872)

US publisher. In 1866, having operated an agency to sell US books in London, and having published his own magazine, Palmer's Monthly Magazine, he started the firm that became G P Putnam & Son, known for its high literary standards. He fought energetically for reforms in copyright law.

He was born in Brunswick, Maine.
