Puttnam, David (Terence) (1941- )

English film producer. He played a major role in reviving the British film industry internationally in the 1980s, and has been involved in an eclectic range of films with a variety of film-makers. They include Midnight Express (1978), Chariots of Fire (1981) (Academy Award for best film), The Killing Fields (1984), and Memphis Belle (1990). He was head of Columbia Pictures 1986-87.

His first feature film was Melody (1971). Other films include Bugsy Malone (1976), The Duellists (1977), Local Hero (1983), The Mission (1986), Meeting Venus (1991), Le Confessional (1995), and The World of Moss (1998).
