Pygott, Richard

Pygott, Richard (c. 1485–1552)

English composer. He was in Wolsey's private chapel in 1517 as Master of the Children and in 1533 became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal. Later he was given a living allowance at Coggeshall monastery in Essex and a canonry at Tamworth, but lost some of the benefits at the dissolution of the monasteries. Henry VIII, however, and after him Edward VI, retained his services.
