quantitative analysis

In chemistry, a procedure for determining the precise amount of a known component present in a single substance or mixture. A known amount of the substance is subjected to particular procedures.

Gravimetric analysis determines the mass of each constituent present; volumetric analysis determines the concentration of a solution by titration against a solution of known concentration.

Many of the more modern laboratory techniques, including several types of spectroscopy, can be used for both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
