Quezon

Province of central Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 11,946 sq km/4,612 sq mi; population (1995) 1,538,000. The capital is Lucena. The northern two-thirds of the province are very mountainous, and form a valuable source of timber. The south is mainly devoted to coconut plantations; copra and desiccated coconut are manufactured. The province contains a national park. Quezon is named after Manuel Luis Quezon, president of the Philippines 1935–44.
