Quilmes

Highly industrialized suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina; population (1996) 509,445. Quilmes lies some 15 km/9 mi southeast of the centre of the capital. It has one of the world's largest breweries; its other products include textiles, ironware, rayon, and glass; there are also oil refineries here.

Quilmes derives its name from the Quilmes people, who were forcibly relocated here from Tucumán province in northwest Argentina in 1667.

There is one little known fact about the diminutive Argentinian which shouldn't go unmentioned - as a teenager growing up in his native Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Agueroworshipped Liverpool, and Michael Owen in particular.
An outbreak that included 47 cases took place in March 2001, in Quilmes in the suburban area (Informe de Epidemiologia de Quilmes, Buenos Aires, unpub, data).
