Quirino

Province of northern Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 3,057 sq km/1,180 sq mi; population (1995) 131,000. The capital is Cabarroguis. It is a remote and unspoilt area of mainly mountainous terrain which is densely forested. Timber is produced, gold, silver, and copper are mined, and limestone is quarried. Rice and corn are produced in the fertile plains and valleys.
