Réti, Rudolf (1885–1957)

Austrian composer, pianist, critic, and musical analyst. A champion of new music from the first, he gave the first performance of Schoenberg's Op. 11 piano pieces and was one of the founders of the International Society for Contemporary Music in 1922.

He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and emigrated to the USA in 1938. He wrote The Thematic Process in Music and Tonality, Atonality and Pantonality.

The Dead Mourn the Living, Three Allegories for orchestra (1953); two piano concertos; The Greatest of All for chorus and orchestra.
