Rózsa, Miklós (1907–1995)

Hungarian-born US composer. He wrote music for such films as The Jungle Book, Spellbound (1945), and Ben Hur (1959).

He studied piano and composition in Leipzig, and in 1932 settled in Paris, achieving success as a composer. In 1935 he moved to London, where he worked in the film industry, and in 1940 settled in Hollywood.

Works

Orchestral

Ballet Hungarica, symphony (1930), Scherzo, Theme, Variations and Finale for orchestra (1933); concert overture, serenade for chamber orchestra; concerto for string orchestra; two violin concertos, viola concerto (1984); film music.

Chamber

string quartet; piano quintet, trio for violin, viola, and clarinet; and other pieces.
