Röntgen, Julius (1855–1932)

Dutch pianist, composer, and conductor. He was a great friend of the composer Grieg, of whom he wrote a biography; other influences in his creative life were Brahms, Schumann, and, later in his career, Reger.

He studied at the Conservatory at Leipzig, Germany, but returned to Holland, living in Amsterdam 1878–1924 as a teacher and conductor, and becoming director of the Conservatory in 1914. He was the son of Engelbert Röntgen.
