Rösler, Franz Anton (c. 1750–1792)

Bohemian composer. Destined for the priesthood, he attended the Jesuit College of Olomouc, but in 1773 entered the service of the Prince of Ottingen as a double bass player and later became conductor. He left for Ludwigslust in 1789 and was court music director there to his death. He wrote under the name of Francesco Antonio Rosetti.

oratorios Der sterbende Jesus (1786) and Jesus in Gethsemane; Requiem for Mozart (1791).

Orchestral and chamber music

34 symphonies; concertos for piano, violin, flute, oboe, clarinet, and horn; other chamber music; violin sonatas.
