Roma

In Roman mythology, the goddess personifying the power of Rome. Temples of Roma were built throughout the empire, and the Romaia was a feast held in her honour.

Roma

Town in Queensland, Australia, 479 km/298 mi west of Brisbane; population (1996) 5,744. The town is in a region where citrus fruits and grapes are grown, and sheep and cattle are raised, and it is a service centre for the region of Darling Downs. Roma is near a large natural gas field.

The South West Queensland pipeline (completed in December 1996) connects at Wallumbilla near Roma, and extends for 756 km/470 mi, supplying gas to Brisbane and Gladstone.

Orchestral suite by George Bizet, composed 1866–68 and first performed at Paris in 1869.
