rum

Spirit fermented and distilled from sugar cane. Scummings from the sugar pans produce the best rum, molasses the lowest grade. Puerto Rico and Jamaica are the main producing countries.

Rum

Island of the Inner Hebrides, Highland unitary authority, Scotland, area 110 sq km/42 sq mi, a nature reserve since 1957. Askival is 810 m/2,658 ft high.

The island is owned by Scottish National Heritage, known as the Nature Conservatory Council when it was purchased in 1957.

It is served by passenger ferries from the port of Kinloch to Muck, Canna, Eigg, and Mallaig on the mainland.
