Rabassa, Gregory

Rabassa, Gregory (1922– )

US translator. His National Book Award for his first translation, Julio Cortázar's Hopscotch 1966, was the first of many honours for dozens of translations bringing contemporary Latin American literature to US readers.

He was born in Yonkers, New York. He taught at Columbia University 1947–68 and Queens College in 1968.
