Radcliffe, Daniel Alan (1989– )

English actor. He became famous worldwide as the bespectacled young wizard in the Harry Potter series of films (2001–05), based on the fantasy children's novels by J K Rowling. Other roles include the young incarnation of the title character in the British television adaptation of Charles Dickens's David Copperfield, and the son of Geoffrey Rush and Jamie Lee Curtis in the 2001 film adaptation of John Le Carré's spy novel The Tailor of Panama.

The Harry Potter films include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

He was born in London, England, to Alan Radcliffe, a literary agent, and Marcia Gresham, a casting agent. He was interested in acting by the age of five, and convinced his mother to send a photograph of him to the BBC for a role in David Copperfield. This role brought him to the attention of director Chris Columbus, who pegged him for the role of Harry Potter.
