Radio Authority

UK statutory body established 1991 following the Broadcasting Act 1990 to take over the radio functions of the former Independent Broadcasting Authority. The Authority assigns frequencies, appoints licensees with a view to widening listener choice, and regulates programming and advertising by issuing obligatory codes. The Authority consists of seven members, all appointed by the Department of National Heritage.
