Radom

Industrial city in south central Poland, 96 km/60 mi south of Warsaw; population (2001 est) 232,000. Industries include flour-milling, brewing, tobacco, leather, bicycles, machinery, and ironworks.

Radom is one of the oldest Polish settlements. It was first chartered in 1364, but there had long been a town on this site. It became part of Austria in 1795, and of Russia in 1825, reverting to Poland in 1919.
