Raeff, Marc

Raeff, Marc (1923– )

US Russian specialist and educator born in Russia. He taught longest at Columbia University, where he focused largely on Russian history and was named Bakhmeteff Professor of Russian Studies in 1973. He was a member of the US delegation to the Soviet-American Historical Colloquium in 1972 and to the Polish-American Historical Colloquium in 1974. He was the author of numerous books on Russia.

Born in Moscow, he emigrated to the USA to escape World War II in 1941. He finished his education and taught history at Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts 1949–61.
