Rafelson, Bob (Robert) (1933– )

US film director. Known for his highly original portraits of US culture during the 1970s, he gained critical acclaim for his second film, Five Easy Pieces (1970), starring Jack Nicholson as an oil-rig worker. Other films include The King of Marvin Gardens (1972), Stay Hungry (1976), and The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981).

He was also involved in music production; he co-created The Monkees and earned an Emmy award for The Monkees TV series and he directed the video for US singer Lionel Richie's ‘All Night Long’.
