    0.10 sec.

Rain, Steam and Speed: the Great Western Railway

Painting by the English artist J M W Turner 1844 (National Gallery, London). One of the most Impressionistic and atmospheric of his later works, it interprets the feeling of travel by rail in the 1840s.

Although nothing is precisely defined, the scene was apparently between Taplow and Maidenhead. The picture was exhibited at the Royal Academy 1844. It measures 90 x 120 cm/36 x 48 in.
